I had a meeting today with a very influential individual -- while waiting for the other attendees to show up he started some small chat. Quickly he proceeded to state how he had moved up from a starting career position to his current position, and how his MBA had been a contributor to his success, because (according to him), everyone should "have an MBA". After the meeting, another meeting participant asked me how I had handled the time preceding the meeting "by becoming bored" by the key participant speaking about his MBA. I asked if there was some issues with that topic and was told that the key participant tells the MBA stories so many times that everyone walks away.
I then recalled an incident a couple of weeks back when, similarly, a person referred several times to the fact that they had an MBA. On that instance, the discussion revolved about this person's insisting that they were more knowledgeable because they had more studies than someone else. I remarked that education is not necessarily knowledge. The person became irate after my comment, until I explained I had two MBAs and additional studies beyond it, plus teach at the MBA level for a major university. End of conversation.
In my opinion, if you are not interviewing, there are very few reasons for discussing credentials, but maybe it is me.
Do you feel compelled to tell the world that you have an MBA, except for the common discussions relating to credentials. Recommended protocol may be in order, but this is a work in progress.

It's ME again. No MBA, 15 years of experience.
I'd have most likely become "bored" with his story. I may have even yawned to make my point a little clearer.
When I do get my MBA or other advanced degree, it will belong on my wall and business card. There is no need for a swordfight unless you are sure your sword is better than everyone else in the room or else risk losing your head. Not pretty. I've heard of my boss pulling her ace out of her hat and throwing down on an unsuspecting braggard before. I think you would get along with her.
Anonymous, 2 MBAs, engineering, 10 years experience.
So you try and stop HIS bragging with some bragging of your own! PERFECT!!! Nobody wants to hear about eeeeeverything you've "done." Save it honey. Peace.
